“Watch me”
Who hasn’t heard these words uttered by their young children as they try to show us what they can do? Watch me! Proud of their accomplishments and attempts, they ask for our attention; even if just for a moment. Over time they’ll have forgotten what it was they were trying to do, but for us as parents some of these are indelibly etched in our hearts and minds.
When asked to accept the role of Public Relations Officer, I had just one question. What am I supposed to do? I sought counsel from the current PRO, and others who had served the District. Their advice was invaluable, but it was at the mall watching a little boy vying for the attention of his mother that my mission came into focus.
For this year, District 14 would like to help all of their clubs create many “watch me” moments. That is the ultimate goal for all of the District’s Public Relations Officers – the clubs’ Vice Presidents of Public Relations – and we will share in our mission and in the recognition of a job well done. In the coming weeks you will see announcements about some of the usual ways we recognize all of our clubs’ newsletters, websites and media outreach. What you’ll also see are new ways we’re going to advance the mission of the District. Just watch us!
