Terminology Clarification
We’ve seen the following terms intermingled several times
recently. As we have more and more new clubs chartering and planning
their special day of recognition, let’s help them understand
the correct terminology…
MEMBER INDUCTION CEREMONY this
is the process of officially accepting members into a club, whether
it is the charter members of a new club or new members of an established
club after they have been “voted in.”
OFFICER INSTALLATION CEREMONY this is the process of officially
recognizing new club officers and charging them with their responsibilities,
whether it is the first time for a newly-chartered club or newly-elected
officers of an established club.
CHARTER CEREMONY this is
the process of officially presenting a new club’s charter
certificate and usually includes both the Member Induction and
Officer Installation Ceremonies as a part of this special celebration.
This is generally the District Governor’s prerogative and
should be coordinated with the District Governor when planning
it.
