Education & Training Corner

 Kene Iloenyosi

Fellow District 14 Toastmasters,

Thank you for electing me to serve as your 2010-2011 Lt Governor Education and Training. I believe that together we can set new levels of member commitment to the educational program offered by our great organization.

As Lt. Governor Education and Training, I will focus on ensuring that our district officers are properly trained and resourced to serve the clubs and members effectively. This in turn will ensure that clubs have Area and Division Governors who can provide the help needed in a timely manner. As a team, we are committed to doing our best to ensure that every District 14 Toastmaster reaps the benefits of the quality education and training programs offered through our respective clubs, TLIs and conferences.

I will tell you that we are also committed to developing the leadership skills of every district officer through the High Performance Leadership manual. In order to further develop their leadership skills, each 2010-2011 district officer has been tasked with completing the High Performance Leadership (HPL) program.  While serving on these HPL teams, club officers will learn the immense benefits of this program, and will hopefully share it with their clubs.  We believe that the stronger our base of leaders, the stronger we will be as a district.

Our District 14 Communication and Leadership Standards for this year are:

1. Every Member in District 14 should work to complete at least one Communication or Leadership Award (CC, AC, CL, AL, or DTM) from July 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.

- In addition to working on their High Performance Leadership projects, District Leaders have pledged to set an example by achieving at least one Communication or Leadership Award for each club to which they belong.

- Any member who earns three distinct awards within this Toastmaster year will receive the prestigious District Triple Crown Award.

2. All Club Officers will attend District training twice a year. That means 100% of Club Officers trained. Studies have shown that clubs with District-trained officers are more successful than those who do not.

3. Our Vice Presidents Education are committed to ensuring quality programming and working with the club leadership team to offer only Quality Meetings.

We all joined Toastmasters for a reason beyond simply improving our speaking skills. We each carry a dream, a vision, passion or desire to reach a higher level of personal and professional success, and we understand that improving our communication and leadership skills will help us achieve that goal.

Never lose sight of your life goals and vision. You are special and unique, and are on this earth for a purpose. The Toastmasters program is part of the process of getting there. Take it seriously and learn all you can. As you develop your self, please remember to reach back and give back. Help a new member through their first three speeches or invite a friend to attend your club meeting. Most of all, make sure you have fun.  In the words of our Founder, Dr. Ralph C. Smedley, “We learn best in moments of enjoyment.”

Energize Your Voice and live your dreams.

Sincerely,

Kene Iloenyosi, DTM
